soap in djibouti

I have noticed a rather strange phenomenon here in Djibouti. Perhaps it is only isolated to my flat but it is perplexing nonetheless. Soap does not lather here. Growing up in the US, working the soap into a nice lather was something that never even entered my mind. In Djibouti, I just get a a nice film of soap on my hands. I've tried different kinds and also soap from the US but to no avail.

This is NOT my soap experience.

  1. I think part of it may be due to all the salt in the air and on the skin...

  2. I would find this most distressing if the same happened with liquid soap.

  3. Perhaps the issue is not the soap but rather the water. 'Hard' water significantly limits soaps ability to lather up. So... there's your answer! Import all your bathing water! :)

  4. Judi says...Water treatment in Djibouti does not use system of reverse osmosis. Hence salt on skin and no bubbling shampoo.
